Connecting Creatives: Boogie Plants

The Six Degrees Creative brand is all about connection. With the Connecting Creatives segment the goal is to highlight creatives and entrepreneurs in our communities and share their journey. No matter the outlet or industry, it is important we support each other’s growth both professionally and personally. Together we can make being a creative or running a small business sustainable and successful.

This week we highlight Julia Rado of Boogie Plants. Inspired by club culture and the lively energy plants bring to the dance floor, Julia wanted to capture the magic of those prominent experiences. Whether it's a living room, office, or concert there is no doubt you can feel the vibe go up when Boogie Plants are in the space.

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to be part of Connecting Creatives. Can you tell us more about your background and how you got started on your business journey?

Creator Julia Rado was inspired by club culture and the magic of plants on the dance floor. Cultivating her truth through community by creating memorable moments through the underground in Berlin, New York, Tulum, Los Angeles, and San Diego.

She was first struck by creative lightning dancing under the disco ball at the legendary club called ‘Now A Days’ in Brooklyn NY. A playground drenched in plants with brilliant frequencies in 2018.

She wanted to produce a feeling of that extraordinary moment at any time or place.

What keeps you engaged and passionate about your small business?

Everything relates to my project these days. I wanted to produce a new paradigm of club culture to people's sanctuaries during COVID-19 while they envision themselves on dance floors and tune into Zoom raves and Twitch streams.

The disco ball symbolizes iconic reflections, the plant arrangements for growth and health, and my handwoven macrame (that I learned from youtube/years of summer camp) represents weaving and coming together during this time of isolation.

I wanted to keep the vibes high while working, decompressing, & healing in our homes.

Nothing brings more electricity to me than when I experience new things in my everyday routine.

When the right glimpse of light hits the Boogie Plant during a special time of day that you wouldn’t experience if you weren't home all the time...on your living room walls, your computer screen, or when you shine that spotlight on it at night for that silly moment of that feeling we miss from shows and now appreaciate more.

Those moments give me life and joy.

If you could give advice to your younger business self what would it be?

Be energetically irreplaceable, and don’t be afraid to ask what you want in grace.

What is a challenge you have faced as a small business and how have you overcome it?

Not to be ashamed to ask for guidance, as much as I think I can do it all I am learning as I go and embracing the grass roots of building. I am open to mentorship and assistance.

What do you want people to take away from your small business?

That culture drives it all and connection is the most important trade.

What is the next milestone for you?

Hotel & Establishment partnerships, Global Event installations and Festival stages (Figures crossed).

How can we support you?
